About the club
FF Hannover was founded in 1983, but we have had exchanges (now Journeys) since 1978. We have about 30 members – most of them are retired. Most of our members are retired. We like to welcome one or two incoming Journeys and one outgoing Journeys each year.
About the region
Hannover is a city in the northern part of Germany. About one million people live in our area. The city itself has a population of about half a million. Hannover has a beautiful old town, the 300 year old Herrenhausen Gardens and many other points of interest in and around Hannover. Not far away are old and restored cities like Celle and Hameln. The best time to visit Hannover is from May until October. Even in summer it can sometimes be cool, so it will be a good idea to pack a jacket in the luggage.
About the Journey
The easiest way to travel to Hannover is by plane. The Hannover Airport is just 5 kilometres north of the city and our hosts will pick you up there. Groups can fly to another German airport and then take the train to Hannover, too. From the airports in Hamburg, Frankfurt, or Berlin the transfer time to Hannover is about 3 hours by train.
Our guests will be hosted either in the city of Hannover or within a maximum of 40 kilometres around Hannover. The age of most of our hosts range from 60 to 79 years.
Besides a welcome or farewell party, we often arrange a day trip by bus to Hameln (a restored older town at the river Weser) known for the “Pied Piper Legend” or a day tour by train to the town of Goslar in the Harz-Mountains. This day tour is without extra costs for our guests. Depending on the season there can be other activities, too.
Beside the official program, our hosts will make their own program with their guests.
In cases in which the ambassador group requests a special activity which is not planned by our club, this can be arranged. In that case, there can be extra costs for the ambassadors.
