About the club
FF Hamburg has about 70 members of varied professions. Our club members meet twice a month at a regulars’ table, and we also have four to five official club meetings a year. FF Hamburg has been active since 1979 and participated in both incoming and outgoing Journeys every year since that time.
We like to welcome one international and one European incoming Journey each year and send one to two outgoing Journeys into the world. As a maximum, we like to host up to 20 ambassadors. For more information, please visit www.friendshipforce-hamburg.de
About the region
The British magazine “The Economist” has ranked Hamburg as the 10th most beautiful city worldwide in 2017. Hamburg has about 1.8 mil inhabitants and Germany’s largest port, which is also one of Europe’s leading transit ports. Which other European cities are graced by a lovely lake in the middle of town? Hamburg offers a unique cityscape with its midtown lake Alster, a magnificent City Hall, the famous Reeperbahn and beautiful surroundings with medieval cities and typical northern German countryside. We have sporting events, multiple museums and other cultural programs visitors can enjoy year-round.
About the Journey
The purpose of FF Hamburg is to uphold the The Friendship Force philosophy of making friends around the world, because a world of friends is a world of peace. Therefore, we always request a return Journey with the clubs visiting us and appreciate the additional opportunity to get to know our guests and their culture. We arrange welcome and farewell parties in order to enable all members of the group to get to know each other. Additionally, we try to incorporate free days in each Journey for more individual entertainment and the opportunity to go on excursions with one’s hosts. The main emphasis is for the host families to make friends with the ambassadors. Due to the more personal atmosphere, our guests have the opportunity to meet other people and visit their homes.
Tour this world-class container port on a harbor barge, take in the unique warehouse complex on a fleet tour, or stroll along the Elbe River. Every May, the Port of Hamburg celebrates its anniversary with a three-day bash, featuring the ballet of the tugboats, a windjammer parade, fireworks and hundreds of booths.
We have many places to take our incoming ambassadors, e.g. the City Hall, the Elbphilharmonie, the harbor, or an UNESCO World Heritage quarter of 19th century mercantile and warehouse buildings. For the free days, excursions to picturesque neighboring medieval towns like Luebeck, Lueneburg, Lauenburg, and Stade are possible.
