About your club
Ours is a small but active club (49 members). We usually host two inbound Journeys each year, and in turn do two outbounds. Most of our members live in Hamilton and/or Burlington at the west end of Lake Ontario, but we also have a few members who live in the western suburbs of Toronto (just under an hour to the east of us). The club usually meets monthly between September and May to consider the business of organizing Journeys, membership matters, learning about other places and cultures, or just to celebrate with club parties, pot-luck dinners, or other social events. New membership enquiries are most welcome. We have four seasons and prefer to host in Spring and Fall when temperatures are moderate.
About your region
Situated at the western tip of Lake Ontario and conveniently located within an hour of Toronto & Niagara Falls, the neighbouring cities of Hamilton and Burlington await your visit. The Niagara Escarpment, a world Biosphere reserve, runs through the area and offers over a hundred waterfalls and a section of the Bruce Trail – an 800 km hiking trail that winds through southwestern Ontario along the escarpment. The major industry in Hamilton was formerly steel-making, but now healthcare and education are the major employers of the area. Burlington is the home of many smaller manufacturers and service sector employers.
About the Journey
On a one-week club-to-club Journey, we typically program an overview of our area and its many attractions. In addition to the best of Hamilton/Burlington, we give guests an opportunity to visit Niagara Falls, Toronto, and other attractions within an hour’s drive. Our themed invitational arts Journeys, which have included trips to The Stratford and Shaw Festivals, concerts and plays in Hamilton and Toronto among other things, have very quickly been oversubscribed each time they were offered.
