About the club
The Friendship Force of Gifu which started in Toki City (a suburb of Gifu City) was founded in 1984. Our members are about 50 families. We really hope young members will take part in our activities.
About the region
Our city, Gifu is almost in the middle of Japan. It is famous as a city of mountains and beautiful rivers. The population is approximately 420,000 and it covers an area of 196.2 km2. Gifu Castle is famous as the residence of General Nobunaga Oda and Lord Dosan Saito, who ruled these districts in the 16th century.
About the Journey
We have basically one outbound Journey and one inbound Journey in a year. When we welcome the ambassadors from foreign countries, we usually plan one-day bus tour to Kyoto and a historical Cormorant Fishing Trip on the Nagara River. There are many fascinating places to visit, like “Hida Takayama,” “Kisoji,” and the World Heritage Site of “Shirakawago.”
Transportation between the airport and Gifu:
1) The Host Coordinator will meet you at the Airport (NGO), and take you to Gifu station by train. Train fare is about US$17 per person. Hosting families will meet ambassadors at the station.
2) In case of second week hosting, we usually meet ambassadors at the Shinkansen (Bullet train) station of Gifu-Hashima, and then drive to home by private car.
Most of club members live in several cities near Gifu within one-hour drive from the station. But several members live in Nagano & Aichi Prefecture, and it will take about 1 to 3 hours by car.
