About the club
Our club was founded in 1991 and we have about 22 club members. The average age is below 60. Around the half of our members live in Cottbus, the other half lives approx. 50 km (1 hour driving distance) away. Our club is the most eastern club in Germany. You can reach the border to Poland by car in about 45 min. Unfortunately, we can only host 12 people.
About the region
Cottbus is located in the state of Brandenburg – between Berlin and Dresden, with around 100,000 inhabitants. Our region has changed from an industrial region (coal mining for power and heat generation) to a modern touristic region having theatres, museums, shopping options and technical universities. Only a few kilometers east is the natural resort called “Spreewald.” Spreewald is a unique natural area with numerous water courses. A national minority lives in this area as well. They are called “Wenden” and “Sorben” and have their own language and culture. The best time to visit is April, May, June, September, or October.
About the Journey
You can reach Cottbus by plane, either flying to Berlin-Tegel or Berlin-Schoenefeld. Afterwards you can take the train. If you like, we can also organize bus transfers from the airport. We would like to introduce you to our lives, culture, and economy. Our program is flexible based on your interests. Worth seeing are for example hiking tours through the old town of Cottbus (its 850th anniversary was in 2006), Branitzer Park (designed by prince Pueckler in the 18th century), visiting schools/universities, meeting with handicap people at work in a factory, or visiting an active brown coal mining including re-cultivation. Also worth seeing is the Spreewald by taking a boat trip and visiting a museum of the minority “Sorben.” If you like, we can also organize a trip to the city of Dresden or to Poland by visiting a Polish market. Please keep in mind, all of our trips require a lot of walking.
