Club Highlights

v      Official club name: The Friendship Force of  Hannover

v      Closest major airport(s): Hannover/Germany

v      Cost of transportation between the airport and our city: Normally no costs because we welcome our guests at the airport By train about 4 US-Dollar

v      The maximum number of Ambassadors our club can host: 21 - 30

v      About the club: Our club was founded in 1983, but we have had exchanges since 1978.  We are about 100 members - including families and single people. Most of our members are retired, but a part of us are still working.  We like to welcome two or three incoming exchanges each year and one or two outgoing exchanges.

v      About the region: About one million people are living in the Hannover area. The city itself has a population of about half a million people. Hannover has a nice old town, the 300 year old HerrenhausenGardens and other points of interest in and around Hannover. Not far away are old cities like Celle and Hameln.  The best time to visit Hannover is from May till October. Even in the summer sometimes it can be cool, so it would be good to bring a jacket. There can be periods of rain over the whole year, that means our visitors need a little bit of luck.

v      About the exchange:  The easiest way to come to Hannover is by plane. The Hannover airport is just 5 kilometres north of the city. Groups can fly to Hamburg or to Frankfurt, too, from where you will have good train connections. The transfer time by train from Frankfurt to Hannover is about 3 hours and from Hamburg about 2:30 hours. If requested we can send a bus to these airports or in case of 2nd week hosting to other Friendship Force clubs to pick up our guests. The age of our hosts range from 50 to 79 years, most of them are in the 60th. The guests will be hosted either in the city of Hannover or a maximum of 40 kilometres around Hannover. Besides a welcome or farewell-party we normally arrange a day trip by bus to Hameln (a restored old town at the river Weser known for the "Pied Piper Legend") or a day-tour by train to the town of Goslar in the Harz-Mountains. This tour is without costs for our guests.  Depending on the time of the year there can be other activities, too. Beside the official program our hosts will make their own program with their guests. In case the Ambassador group requests a special activity not planed by the club, this can be arranged, but there can be extra-costs for the ambassadors.
