v      About the club:  The Friendship Force of Norderstedt was founded in 1984.  We have approximately 100 members.  They are mostly middle class, white-collar workers between the ages of 30 and 70.

v      About the region:  Norderstedt is located at the northern border of the Hanseatic city of Hamburg, an old town state.  Norderstedt is a young community with single or town houses and apartment buildings.  The countryside is green forest and farmland.  The Baltic and North Sea are 80 km away.  Norderstedt belongs to the Federal State of Schleswig-Holstein. There is a lot to see and enjoy.  One can go to downtown Hamburg by underground, the Harbour, Townhall, St. Michael Cathedral, Museums and Theaters. A trip to Denmark after the regular exchange can be made by ship and ferry.

v      About the exchange:  Ambassadors were met by hosts at the airport or main station of Hamburg. Normally we do have a welcome party and a farewell party. We arrange visits of the city of Hamburg with its beautiful buildings; a harbour cruise, maybe a trip to the North Sea, show the beautiful countryside and have time to visit the old town of Lübeck or Lüneburg.Credit cards are not as commonly accepted as in the U.S. and other countries.  Some hosts do not have automobiles.  Some of our suggested trips include walking for a couple of miles.
