Meet Rita Kirk Powell

Rita Kirk Powell -
FFI Board Member, Secretary -
Dallas, Oregon
Rita became a member of the Friendship Force in 1993, when she was forced to retire from teaching dance due to arthritis.
She says Friendship Force is her life. She enjoys the close friends she has made in her own community as well as those that she continues to renew around the globe. (She and her family have hosted students and adults through a number of organizations – so many, in fact, that her younger daughter says that sometimes it has felt as though they live at the train station!)
Rita has served in a number of offices in her local Friendship Force Club, that of Oregon’s Mid-Willamette Valley, including co-President. She has led Inbound and Outbound club exchanges, as well as national exchanges to Hungary, Cuba and Vietnam. Dr. Powell was a U.S. Field Representative for Friendship Force and has attended several international conventions. As a Field Rep., she coordinated a Regional Conference for the Pacific Northwest.
Rita was a dance instructor at the university level for 25 years.
Other organizations in which Dr. Powell has been involved are the local American Association of University Women, the city parks and recreation commission and library board, a local home for troubled youth and Greyhound Pets of America Northwest. She is an avid quilter and reader – and she loves to sing.
Rita’s two daughters are both artists, one living in San Francisco, the other in Portland, Oregon. Her husband, Ted, continues to be active in the family business. Rita and Ted recently moved to 55+ acres where Ted is in the process of getting approval to build his dream house himself! The view is splendid - every day. They enjoy their new hill-top location and welcome guests!
