Leslie Withers has been working in the interfaith community for more than 20 years. She started the Atlanta chapter of Clergy and Laity Concerned (CALC), an interfaith organization concerned with human rights, ending the arms race, and ending world hunger. She later became National Program Director and then Interim Executive Director for CALC. She went with a delegation to Northern Ireland in support of the women’s peace movement; to Iran for dialogue with students holding U.S. hostages in 1980; and to Haiti to support the democratic movement to restore legally elected President Aristide.

She has served as Director of Education for Seeds, an ecumenical magazine for Christians concerned about hunger; traveled to India and Brazil, reporting on development projects for women; and conducted workshops and educational programs for churches working to end hunger. Although not ordained, she has preached in Baptist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Methodist and Episcopalian churches.

Leslie lives in Decatur, GA with her husband and three cats. She is a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church, where she serves as a deacon and sings in the choir. Several years ago, she served on the staff of the church as Interim Coordinator of Ministries for three years while the church searched for permanent professional staff.
